As I’ve been following le Tour through the last few days —mostly in the background—, I’ve found that what truly draws me to this event is not the race itself, but the beautiful countryside France has and the people that come out from their homes and workplaces to enthusiastically cheer the riders that swoosh by. What a great atmosphere!
It’s a pity the riders don’t get to truly appreciate it. In fact, the actual race has begun to be a drawback for me. It has gotten too technical, too many interests, and way too competitive —in a bad way :( This has been for many years now, but witnessing so many faults and cheating, I long for the days when true sportsmanship will see this race.
They’ve lost the French way of enjoying the pleasure of riding a bicycle and enjoying the scenery… ::sigh::
