  • Bumping into a fresh harvest of sunflowers in the nearby fields. I got two flowers for $17 pesos —the spare change I had in my pocket (about $1.25US). The farmer asked for $10 each, but I didn’t have enough for two, so he said, “Está bien, que sean 2 por $15 —pa’l chesco” (OK, make it 2 for $15 —for a soda). I laughed and gave him my $17. His wife and his daughters laughed, too :)
“Pa’l chesco” is very colloquial here in Mexico. It’s short for “para el refresco” when someone just wants a small tip.
  • Spending time at my aunt’s today. Our trip to Veracruz was supposed to be today, but it was postponed until Monday because she was feeling very lousy yesterday. Today she looked much better :)
  • Zero cheers available today :( I guess that means I’ll get an early night…
