I had the fortune to experience the most spectacular natural wonder I have witnessed so far in my life. Few times have I been in such awe. I still remember the date perfectly! I was lucky that the eclipse path ran through the city I lived in at the time (Puebla, Pue.).
More impressive than to see the sun fully blocked by the moon is to see the night coming to you from the distant horizon at a vertiginous speed and turn everything to darkness. Unlike shade, this was like a very dark dusk almost into the night. There was a sudden surreal silence —in the middle of the city. Animals were uneasy as this phenomenon had caught them off guard. You could then hear the roosters sing in their pre-dawn fashion. And then after some 3-4 minutes, again from the distance, full daylight came dashing and chasing the darkness fleeing in the opposite direction…
I took some decent shots on film, but this incredible event has been permanently engraved in my mind, and I will always remember it despite having the photos :)
